Samoens Ski Holidays
Samoens ski resort is a located in the Giffre valley at the base of the Criou mountain. It is a typical French mountain village dating from the 13th century and is full of luxury chalets and ski apartments. The resort is part of the larger Domaine du Grand Massif ski area which also includes the resorts of Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon and Sixt Fer-a-Cheval. Together these ski resorts offer over 250km of ski runs and plenty of skiing for all levels.
Samoens has retained its traditional feel and is one of the few ski resorts to be designated as an official historic site. The village is known mostly for its stonemasons and you can see many old buildings, church and fountains around the town that pay testament to the skills of the stone workers in the area.
One of the big advantages of Samoens ski resort is that it has a lot of north facing slopes which guarantee good snow conditions throughout the ski season. The resort can catered for all ski holiday and offers and mixture of challenging black combined with more relaxed intermediate runs. For beginners there is of course plenty of nursery slopes and gentle green runs. Samoen is quite popular with families and there is good child minding and ski kindergarten services available. The resort also boasts a 50km cross country skiing circuit and an ice skating rink.
The village itself is located at 700m but you can take the Grand Massif Express lift which transports you to Samoens 1600 is just 8 minutes. From here you can access all of the skiing and snowboarding in the Grand Massif area. Here are 1600m there is a good selection of nursery slopes and also some easy reds and blues. For skiers and boarders searching for more kilometers you take the Chariande Express lift which lifts you to Tete des Saix (2118m) in just 9 minutes. From here you have access to all the other areas of the Grand Massif ski domain. For intermediate blues and reds try the tree runs in Morrillon or Les Carroz or for more challenging reds and black head down towards Flaine. Whether you are looking for perfectly groomed pistes, off piste free ride areas to mogulled tree runs you can find it all in Samoens and all the time you can admire the beauty of the French Alps and Mont Blanc towering above you.
