Located at 1326 meters above sea level, at the confluence of five valleys, Briançon is the highest town in France. Briançon has a remarkable collection of military works, built between the 18th and 20th centuries to improve the city’s defense system. The visit includes the upper town, or Vauban citadel, the very heart of Briançon, dominated by the by the Château Fort, and the surrounding fortifications of Fort des Salettes, Fort des 3 Têtes and Fort du Randouillet. In winter, Briançon becomes a popular destination for ski enthusiasts, its ski area forming part of the famous Serre Chevalier resort.
