Saint Marcel is one of the many villages in the Belleville municipality. Set at an altitude of 1,500 metres, it is close to the valley’s main town of Saint Martin, which is just a 10 minute walk away. A free shuttle bus also runs between the resorts and the villages in the valley, both in winter and in summer.
Like all of the villages and hamlets in the Belleville Valley, for many years Saint Marcel remained untouched by tourism development, which focused mainly on the valley’s two high-altitude resorts: Les Menuires and Val Thorens. The village maintained its typical Savoyard character, with its little sloped streets lined with centuries-old walls, all leading to a chapel. On a rocky outcrop, two hundred metres from village, sits another chapel: Notre-Dame de la Vie, a focal point of Savoyard Baroque, watching over the valley. Saint Marcel is a welcoming refuge, perfect for getting together with family and friends in a charming setting.
