About Megeve
Megève has a charming medieval pedestrianised centre with bars, boutiques, a jazz club and casino. It has a vast ski area - the fourth largest in France - with very quiet pistes outside of french holidays (as there are no mass market operators here). If you haven’t yet visited then please do come, we’d love to show you why Megève is very different from other major french resorts.
New six man chair lift will open up a previously little skied area of Megève
The new chair lift will replace a rickety old one at the small village of Chattrix, near St. Nicholas de Veroce. John Kinnear says "The Epaule run from Mont Joly is in my view the best piste in Megève. It's about 7km starting on a ridge with stunning close-up views of Mont Blanc and finishes winding through the trees to Chattrix. It was only spoilt by the slow lift back and an exposed corner near the bottom, which faces west, making the snow heavy at the end of season. The corner is being redesigned and the new express lift will make it even more enjoyable".

Skiing in Megève, France
The Megève ski area is huge with over 445km of piste and 113 lifts on the Skipass. Outside the peak New Year and Half-Term weeks, the pistes are often deserted and queues are rare. The runs are easily accessible from the town and there is plenty to keep you occupied for a full week long ski holiday or a ski weekend.
Ski Runs to Suit All Standards in Megève
There are runs to suit everyone from the nervous beginner to the powder hound.
Beginners soon graduate to the winding confidence-building greens of Mont D'Arbois. Long blue and red runs suit intermediate skiers, snaking through the trees and offering fantastic views of Mont Blanc. Black slope skiers are challenged by the steep terrain of Mont Joly and speed freaks by the Women's World Cup downhill run at Cote 2000.
"If I want to ski with my family, I can think of no better place to ski than Megève."
Andre Seigneur - former French national racer trainer
All over the mountains around Megève are charming restaurants and cafes all with individual character.
The Megève lift company has been taken over by the Compagnie du Mont Blanc, promising €60 million of investment over the next few years. Already, the Chamois gondola from the centre of town has been replaced by a six-seater gondola with greater capacity. Also, the double Epaule du Joly chairlift at the top of the Mont d’Arbois ski area has been replaced by a high-speed six‑seater chair which gives quicker and queue-free access to the fabulous Grande Epaule red run along the top ridge which has sharp drops each side and stunning views of Mont Blanc. For those that like something a little different, a new 3km toboggan run has been opened. It has been ‘laid out in a fun and playful way, mainly through the forest’, running from the top of the Princesse gondola to the mid-station and is well worth a try!
Social skiing helps you make the most of your ski holiday
Mixed ability groups benefit from joining our free Unthank Ski Club, which allows you to discover the pistes at your own speed and ability, meet other people in the resort and still be with your friends and family for lunch!

Ski Touring (Randonee) and Cross country (ski de fond)
It's not just downhill skiing in Megeve. There is also plenty of ski touring and extensive cross country pistes. During lockdown many people discovered ski touring as a way of enjoying the mountains without relying on lifts. You can enjoy the true peace and tranquility of the mountains and really get away from it all as well as enjoying some great off-piste. The ESF and Evolution 2 are both offering ski touring lessons to get you started.
There is a big base for cross country at Mont d'Arbois and further up towards Cote 2000. Lessons are available with the ESF. Again, tracks wind round the mountain far away from the busier pistes. You can spot wildlife and take life at a slower pace. You can also use these tracks for snowshoeing.
