The unique situation of the chalet high on the mountain slopes, amongst flower filled alpine meadows with absolutely stunning views, maximum sunshine and total tranquillity, provides a recipe of complete relaxation and maximum enjoyment for your Alpine holiday.

The location for a Skiing holiday is superb, as the snow falls the meadows around the chalet are transformed into the skiing domain, with the nearest lift only 30 metres away and the piste passing through the garden, it is a definite winner for a real ski-in, ski out (all day long) experience. What’s more it is so easy; no cars, no lift queues, no stomping on roads with cumbersome ski gear, no rushing to get the party moving in the morning. For paragliding pilots it is fantastic, we are already 400m above the landing field in the valley, (sometimes I fly down!). In summer a 15minute walk to the chairlift which takes you to the summit of Lachat (2050m). In winter take the lift adjacent to the chalet to save the walk and think about landing right next to the the chalet, if conditions are suitable.

About Le Grand Bornand

Skiing at Le Grand Bornand is a fantastic family friendly experience, with 43 pistes (3 black, 14 red, 16 blue and 10 green) giving a total of 90km of pistes. In addition, there is a fabulous snowpark featuring half pipe, boarder cross and parallel jumps all with music too! Once a week there is nocturnal skiing under floodlights for the indefatigueable.

Chalet d'Or is perfectly situated right in the heart of this ski domain. We are at the TOP of the Joyere bubble lift, so whilst the crowds are queuing to get up to our altitude we are already skiing down! With the ski piste 10 metres away from the door, you have the convenience of stepping from your slippers directly into your ski boots for a true ski-in and ski-out experience.

Chalet d'Or is ideal for families with younger children and with first time skiers, the pistes adjacent to the chalet are graded green with easy button lifts. These runs are visible from inside the chalet, so if you fancy a lazy start the kids can do a couple of runs whilst you plan the day. In fact, the location of the chalet is so fantastic that you can pop back any time you need a snack, a change, a drink or indeed a rest - With us there is no need to carry bulky backpacks whilst you try to ski!

In the evenings when the pistes are closed, Chalet d'Or is at its most special. Starlight on pristine snowfields, no roads for vehicle pollution, above the bustle of the valley and no neighbours give you that special tranquilty of being in total harmony with nature.

For the off-piste adventurer, the great secret of Le Grand Bornand is that you can ski almost the whole mountain! Beneath the snow, the ground is largely grass covered pastures, which means that the first decent snowfall of the season allows you to start venturing off-piste. For your first time off piste, we can arrange a guide if you want.

From our experience we can show you the best places to ski and the coziest mountain restaurants. We can advise on local issues and we can arrange that special extra, whether it is Paragliding above the ski slopes, snowshoeing by moonlight, sledging the unbroken snow slopes adjacent to the chalet or even igloo building if it takes your fancy!

Summer in Le Grand Bornand:
As the winter snow melts away, the ski crowds disappear and the alpine pastures spring to life with an abundance of wild flowers studding the rich green slopes. It is truly an explosion of nature's beauty as each species races to make up for the long hibernation under the winter snows.

We love the tranquillity of early May, taking short walks below the slowly retreating snowline to spot the 'first' of each emerging species. Walks should be short and not too strenuous at this time, as a sudden drop in temperature can transform springtime back into a winter wonderland. The walk up to the summit of the Danay (1731m) gives a fabulous orientation for the surrounding peaks.

As May rolls into June the cows are in the pastures and their bells are ringing, each a unique melody. The farmers are up in their summer chalets, the cheese production reaches its peak as milk yields soar when the cows commence their delicious diet from the fresh pastures. What's more, it is all truly organic and protected under the charter of the AOC Reblochon cheese production.

As soon as summer is here, it is the time to consider the more strenuous walks to the higher mountain destinations. The local summits; Tournette (2345m), Jallouvre (2408m), Aiguille Vert (2045m), L'Ambrevetta (2463m), Pointe Percee(2750m), are sufficiently challenging for the even the experienced hill walker to break a sweat. Alternatively, choose the hidden mountain lakes as your day's destination. Lac de Lessy, Lac de Tardevant, Lac de Peyre are all jewels, waiting to be discovered.
