A wonderfully secluded self catered high mountain chalet at the bottom of the piste, with outdoor hot tub and large fireplace. La Glisse integrates beautifully into the surrounding mountains with high ceilings and large windows, leaving you floating above the clouds well after your return. La Glisse is a tranquil refuge with 4 bedrooms for up to 8 people to explore the many ski options around Chamonix, or the summer hiking trails starting from the front door, while soaking up the high alpine experience, and always with amazing views.
La Glisse is a farmhouse style chalet, consisting of a large open plan central area with an alluring fireplace and big west facing windows, which capture the outstanding valley and mountain views while soaking the open areas in afternoon sunshine. This refuge is a converted restaurant at the bottom of the piste with high ceilings, irregular angles and unconventional spaces, emphasizing comfort and warmth, rather than luxury. An eclectic mix of traditional and exotic furnishings have been creatively blended to give a relaxed feel. The chalet is primarily on one level with the bedrooms and bathrooms leading off from the double volume living area. There are two double bedrooms (one quite small), a family room (double bed plus two singles) and a mezzanine with a double bed.
After a hard day on the slopes, and a long soak in the outdoor Jacuzzi, the favoured option is usually to relax, with a drink or two, in front of the large roaring log fire, while watching snowflakes floating down and laughing about the day's events. There is a selection of books and board games, a CD player and ADSL WiFi access. If Sky Sports, DVD's and video games are a necessary part of your holiday mix, this is not the chalet for you.
However for those evenings when you would like a change of scenery, Argentière and Chamonix are packed with vibrant restaurants, bars and nightclubs which add to the fun of being in the extreme sports capital of Europe.
La Glisse is on the edge of Le Tour village, at the top of the Chamonix Valley. Le Tour (altitude 1,462m) is a tiny typical Haute Savoie village dominated by Le Tour glacier, which seems to hang over the village. The village is sought after by those in search of an authentic French alpine experience where the beauty and charm has not changed for centuries and is unaffected by the presence of a major ski station in its backyard.
The chalet backs onto the nursery and intermediate slopes, while higher up the mountain are some of the best back country rides in Chamonix . It is a 30m walk to the beginner lifts and another 100m across the piste to the main gondola. This is one of the few ski-to-your-door chalets in the whole of the Chamonix valley.
