About Stadl an der Mur

With skiing between 1700 and 2200 meters it offers some of Austria's most snow sure skiing (ref.www.obertaurn.at), whilst also benefiting from over 200 days of sunshine a year. In winter there is the choice between the ski regions of Kreischberg (10 minutes) and Turracher Hoehe (20 minutes), providing 70km of pistes to explore. This includes 9 chairlifts, 14 draglifts, 2 cable cars, snow park, half-pipe, multi-lingual ski instructors (children can ski from 4 years old), and 25km of cross country ski tracks. There are also toboggan runs, curling and night skiing on offer.

We recommend the Murtal Ski pass that gives access to seven of the local mountains for one price. This ticket includes access to the local mountains at Kreischberg and for a €6 supplement Turracher Hoehe.

For those who don't wish to ski, it is possible to use the ski lifts as a foot passenger only at a reduced cost. There are several on mountain lodges from where you can enjoy a drink and take in the action. Tubing, trampolining or even the Yabbaa-Dabba-Doo-Land at Kreischberg are also available for the young/young at heart.

A little further away are the ski regions of Obertauern and Bad Kleinkirchheim, offering an additional 120km of ski slopes each. Both command an international reputation of being amongst the finest skiing destinations in Europe.

Summer in Stadl an der Mur:
Stadl an der Mur is a beautiful summer resort. The mountains provide excellent opportunities for walking, hiking or cycling and the area has much more to offer. Guests also have use of a shared indoor swimming pool (unheated) and Jacuzzi free of charge (June-September).

The village has a leisure facility with an outdoor man-made swimming lake. There is a wooden play area for the children, half pipe facilities for skaters, a tennis court and football pitch, all within walking distance of the chalet.

Austria is also home to some beautiful old castles, a number of which can be found in the area. In the summer why not take the opportunity to explore the local abundance of hiking trails at all levels of difficulty. Altitudes vary between 800-2700m and access to Austria's largest Swiss stone pine forest is only a stones throw away.

For cyclists, Stadl is situated right next to the Mur River Cycle Route and its timber bridge (Mursteg) is referred to as ‘the gateway to the Mur Valley'. Alternatively, for thrill seekers, why not have a go at white water rafting available locally.

For those who would like a round of Golf, there is an 18-hole golf course only 10 minutes away in neighbouring St.Lorenzen.

For fans of The Sound of Music, why not visit the set of the film. The film was shot on lots of real locations around Salzburg only 1.5hrs away. The summer also has plenty for the children. They can enjoy Kreischberg's dinosaur forest for an adventure, the ‘nocky flitzer' toboggan run at Turracher Hoehe, a steam train ride or Horse riding.
