About Bansko

Bansko was recently voted the best value ski resort in Europe and with prices from as little as £80 return to Sofia. Thessaloniki in Greece is also an alternative airport option and flights are often even cheaper to Thessaloniki, especially during peak weeks.

In resort prices are much lower than other European resorts, with a 2 course meal including wine costing less than £15. A beer or hot chocolate on the slopes is less than £2.50.

Unlike purpose built ski resorts, Bansko is a charming town with plenty of history. The town and the mountain are World Heritage Sites, protected by UNESCO.

Bansko has on of the best snow record in Bulgaria and the winter season runs from Mid-December to Mid-April. With north facing slopes and 80% snow making coverage, Bansko attracts skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. There are over 70 kilometers of piste marked area, a multitude of techno alpine snow cannons cover the slopes to top up the snow and improve the ski season. Bansko offers runs and tracks for all types of skiers and snowboards and will suit beginners, intermediates and experts.

Advanced abilities can enjoy the black & red runs with difficult sections and the extremely steep Tomba race track, which hosts the World Cup Womens Downhill and Giant Slalom most years. The resorts range of red and blue runs are perfect for the intermediate and family skiers wishing to cruise around the mountain whilst enjoying the exercise and fresh air.

Bansko welcomes beginners and has two areas dedicated to learners. At the top of the gondola the massive learner area has two gentle rope pulls and a button drag lift complete with children’s play area and crèche. The second beginner slope is in the Chalin Valog area and also has its own dedicated button drag lift.

Bansko has an entire section of the mountain dedicated to the Fun Park, accessible by either chair or drag lift. The fun park is equipped with boxes, rails and kickers with varying levels of difficulty. Competitions are often held in the snow park, including the Burton Pro-Amateur event. For the expert skiers and boarders a vast amount of off piste area is begging to be explored, though we would always recommend taking a guide and the appropriate equipment. We are more than happy to organise this for you.

Other winter activities include:
Para-Gliding, Skidoo Hire & Guides, Thermal Spring Baths, Ice-Skating

Fantastic time at Chalet Jora

Had an amazing stay at Chalet Jora with a group of 13 for a week. The chalet was the perfect place for us to call home for the week and was easily big enough to accommodate such a large group. The chalet rooms were cleaned everyday and were comfortable and nice and warm through even the coldest Bulgarian nights. But the real stars of the show were our hosts!! Even though our arrival was delayed and meant were got there at 2:30am, they were both extremely welcoming and had food prepared for our arrival. The food they made us throughout the week was always of the highest standard and just what was needed after a long day on the slopes. Their recommendations were very useful for both on the slopes and around town, including which bars were expensive and should be avoided and ways to beat the gondola queues in the morning. our hosts certainly made our trip extra special and I will be highly recccomending Chalet Jora to friends and family.
