"Four Seasons" is a large restored 19th-c. Savoyard family farmhouse-chalet with mountain décor and furnishing, built into a south-facing forested hillside just below the attractive chalet-style holiday complex of ski-summer resort ‘St-Francois Longchamp’, with the nearest organised summer activities and skiing; and overlooking pretty villages ‘Notre-Dame du Cruet’ and ‘La Chambre’ at only 8 mins for... all services; shopping at non-resort prices; several decent bistros/restaurants; inter-city and TGV rail; motorway access (Google Earth 45° 22' 26.89"N, 6° 18' 42.71"E)

You are on a quiet country lane up to Montgellafrey farming village, then in summer to our local beauty-spot ‘ Lac de La Grande Léchère ’. It’s not actually that "Grande"! - but great for modest fishing, picnic benches, and a stunning panorama of peaks to the west, from the iconic “Aiguilles d’Arvan” to the climbers' “Barre des Ecrins” and the St Sorlin glacier on the Pic de l’Etendard above Alpe d’Huez.

St Francois is reached in 15 mins by class-A road up the valley opposite, then on up the famous Tour de France ‘Col de la Madeleine’ climb (ski-piste in winter) to the mountain-refuge gourmet pit-stop ‘La Banquise’ at 2000m, with 360° panorama of peaks and the west face (best) view of the Mont Blanc chain

You have nine main rooms on two floors totalling 125m²: Three/four large bedrooms sleeping 2-9 (priced for 6); a large bathroom (and three more); three living rooms including a cosy wood-panelled open-plan kitchen and dining room, 3 steps up to the wood-panelled ‘snug’, and a lounge with three sofas and French windows onto a wide furnished balcony terrace with panoramic views

There's a large ski- and sports-equipment room with free hand- and power-tool workshop facilities - save £££ on ski-waxing, edges, or bike etc. repairs (free help on hand). Some used boots and skis available free – inc. 2 pairs with touring fittings; and some other kit (please discuss before booking).

More? well… nearest night-life is 20 mins - and frankly not that hot! - but for your in-chalet party evenings we do have an emergency wine cellar to hand in our chalet next-door, the ’Ancien Chai’ (‘Old Winery’!)

Suitability notes

The chalet is on 2 floors, with level access to the front door from road and private off-road parking for 3 cars. Wide stairs lead from the lounge to the upstairs bedrooms / bathrooms, and French windows give level access to the furnished terrace. The ground-floor ‘snug’ can also be a bedroom using the double sofa bed, possibly allowing for limited mobility as it is only 3 steps up from the dining room and the cloakroom with wash-basin and toilet, and front door with 75cm. wheel-chair access.

French windows open from the lounge onto the wide terrace (unheated in winter) with wood furniture and decorated with old farm pieces. In summer, there are olive shrubs and masses of traditional geraniums.

From the terrace you enjoy lovely views above the village to the panorama of mountain peaks, forests, and valleys. In summer there are meadows with cows grazing - cowbells too! -and you can take the steep stone steps up into our acre of private woods with mountain viewpoints, and hiking paths up to Montgellafrey village and down to the Bugeon Valley and river (and trout, we're told...). A gentler flight of flag-stoned steps leads down to the road below the chalet and our ancient micro-vineyard opposite.

We’re always here with in-chalet chats ,and by mobile for all-day free 'Holiday Hosting' and French-language help for you to find what and where you want for skiing and summer

Summer - unlimited Visits, Events, Sightseeing, Activities…and skiing - separate section below

The chalet is in the heart of the historic cradle of the 1000-year Duchy of Savoy, and within 30-60 mins of France’s best-loved living ‘old city’ centre and lake, at Annecy; and equally attractive centres at Chambéry, Aix-les-Bains, and Albertville-Conflans.

Then you have… the local ‘Baroque Trail’ (80 amazing gold- and art-decora - ued churches); castles, chateaux, forts, cathedrals, and abbeys; historic industry (mines etc.); museums; theatres; music festivals and events; 3 wine trails (AOC/IGP Savoie); farm visits; gastro and bistro dining; farmers’ markets; lake cruises; mountain sightseeing; Olympic Park (Albertville); and the “Walibi” theme (amusement) park
Leisure, Activities, Sports

Many walking and cycling routes start at your front door - paths in our private woods lead up to alpine meadows, or down to the Bugeon valley and river; and at St Francois more hiking, plus mountain biking, adventure trails, swimming, tennis, archery, and new balneotherapy centre

Venturing further afield are unlimited mountain walking and climbing; the world’s largest network of mountain bike (MTB/VTT) trails; archery; swimming; water skiing; canoeing; canyoning; adventure trails / via ferrata; road cycling (signed local and Tour de France routes); fishing; parapente; flying; tennis; boule; quads; grass skiing.

Lakes-beaches: here you’re in the French 'Lake District'; lakes of Annecy, Le Bourget, Aiguebellette and Geneva (Lac Leman) are all within 45 - 90 mins, with lake boats or cruises, and beaches. And close by are several small lakes with small beaches, swimming, and recreational areas, restaurants, etc. - even some water-skiing

Golf - Several all-year golf courses within 45 mins drive: 9 hole at Apremont in our local wine region (AOC/IGP Savoie); 9- and 18-hole at Giez on the Lake of Annecy, and 18-hole at Talloires. Also, at 75mins, 18-hole at top club Aix-les-Bains

Activities near Saint Francois Longchamp

Skiing - see below

Local Facilities
- Skiing: lifts 15 mins, or 20-35 mins to 10 more "outstanding" resorts
- Summer activities: most within 15-45 mins

La Chambre village 6 mins:
- shops, banks, chemist, doctors/dentist, garages
- Post/Tourist Office
- ‘Real’ supermarket (i.e. half resort prices!); cheap fuel (see “Notes on Prices” below)
- 5 ‘bistros’ and 1 ‘food guide’ restaurant
- motel; 2* village inn
- motorway, trains
... and only 20 mins to scores more supermarkets, shops, hotels, bars, fast food, restaurants

... and the skiing...

As Peter Hardy (ex ‘Which?’ skiing guide) put it in the 'Telegraph'… "Outstanding skiing, prices half popular places, in resorts like St Francois few Brits have even heard of!"…

...where our local skiing is a vast sunny south-facing bowl with some of the best green-blue beginner-intermediate boulevard pistes we’ve come across in 40 years! - with more testing reds/blacks off the peaks behind... all at over 1650m in the 165Km ‘Grande Domaine’ of St-Francois Longchamp-Valmorel whose £96 6-day pass may well be cheapest in the Alps! (call us for details, not obvious on their web-site!)

And all this just 15 mins drive to the chalet; no walk, no ½-hour ski-bus wait, no lift queue... and after that 'last run' a warm car, and no hike in ski-boots humping cold slippery skis.

Or within 30 mins the Maurienne - the “Fourth Valley” - has a dozen more 'outstanding bargain' £19/day resorts with lifts direct from car park to piste... as is Val Thorens / 3 Valleys! – but twice the price!

Local sports activities
