Zell am See & Kaprun Ski Resorts
Zell Am See is a beautiful alpine town located right on the edge of a stunning mountain lake. It is linked with the resort of Kaprun to create the Europa Sport Ski area which offer some 130km of skiing and snowboarding. The ski area is divided into 3 main areas, the glacial resort of Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun, the Maiskogel family zone in Kaprun, and the Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See. There are plenty of well groomed runs and off piste to suit all level of skiers although in general the resort attracts a lot of beginners and intermediate level skiers. The resort has a good network of snow cannons to ensure excellent conditions throughout the season and of course the nearby Kaprun glacier offers snow sure skiing.
The lakeside setting is truly beautiful with the picturesque Austrian Alps towering above the town and lake. The center of Zell am See is mostly pedestrianized and has a wide range of shops, cafés, après ski bars and restaurants. In the middle of winter the Zell lake is completely frozen over so you can enjoy walking, skating and curling right on the lake. There is a regular ski bus service between Zell am See and the nearby Kaprun ski resort and both resorts are very popular for family ski holidays.
Allthough the skiing in Zell am See and Kaprun should be more than enough to keep you busy during your ski holiday, if you fancy experiencing some other Austria ski resorts then you are within easy driving distance to ski resorts like Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Wagrain, Schladming, Bad Gastein-Bad Hofgastein and Obertauern.
The tree lined runs in Zell an See offer something for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. There are nursery slopes located close to town which are perfect for beginners and families. The Schmittenhöhe & Maiskogel areas are also excellent for children and family ski holidays. For more of a challenge try the Schmittenhöhe and the Kitzsteinhorn area which offer a wide range of skiing including tree lined runs, glacier skiing and lots of off piste and free riding areas. Here you can enjoy steep runs and spectacular skiing down towards the Zell lake. Over 40km of cross-country skiing trails weave though the surrounding forest offer perfect conditions for ski touring and cross country skiers. There are a number of routes all offering spectacular scenery and nature.

Like all Austrian ski resorts there is an excellent standard of accommodation in Zell am See. The resort offers a selection of chalets and ski apartments to catered for all budgets. There is also a good choice of ski accommodation in the nearby Kaprun village.
For family ski holidays you can choose from ski chalets to rent which come both catered or non catered. If you fancy a ski apartment there are also plenty of these to rent. Many of the ski apartments in Zell am See are located in typical chalet style building which blend well with the historic style of this lakeside town.

Summer Holidays in Zell am See & Kaprun
Zell am See is a a true year-round resort with as much activity in the summer as during the ski holidays. The town offers a multitude of walking and hiking trails both along by the lake and also high in the mountains. Being situated on a lake means water sports are a big summer activity with water skiing, sailing and kayaking being very popular. Zell am See offers two 18 hole golf courses with some spectacular tee offs. Other summer activities include climbing, mountain bike trails, tennis, nature walks and of course simply relaxing by the lake. For a summer break Zell am See offer plenty of interesting activities and of course you shouldn’t forget that this is also a spa town and a trip to the famous Tauern Spa is a must at all times of year. If you want to explore further afield you can take the train to Salzburg, Innsbruck or Kitzbuhel which are nearby and well worth visiting.
